Volvo Aims to Continue Cutting CO2 Emissions

Volvo aims to build on the success of its’ green campaign, which has seen a 22% drop in CO2 emissions between 2006 and 2010. According to a statement made recently by Volvo Logistics, the company now aims to drop its’ CO2 emissions by 30% (from the 2006 figure) by 2015.

Volvo Logistics Environmental Manager Susanna Hambeson said that key measures for the emissions drop include training their logistics services drivers in driving in a way that is more fuel efficient (an initiative which has already seen 75% of the firms drivers receive the training). On top of this, the companies’ lorries have been fitted with fuel efficient engines that emit less CO2 into the atmosphere.

The company also plan to try and combine shipments and freight, reducing the amount of trucks making deliveries and further reducing their CO2 emissions. In addition, they will also look to replace road transport with marine and/or train services wherever it works out more efficient in terms of fuel consumption, cost and carbon emissions.
